A recent report stated that half of 25-34 year olds dream of leaving their day job whilst, it is said that up to 60% of young people would like to start their own business.

It always excites me to hear about ambitious young people who are looking to carve out their own careers in life yet often these articles are filled with too many woulds, shoulds and coulds.

Although I believe the internet and social media has had a great part to play in creating greater aspirations in young people today, especially in terms of entrepreneurship, it has yet to foster the kind of work ethic and self-discipline required for most of them to take action.

Many young people seem to be more motivated by entrepreneurship as a way of sticking it to “the man” than for its incredible potential for self growth and the possibility of adding your own ding into the universe.

Although I believe everybody has the potential to be and think entrepreneurially it should never be persued as a ‘get out of jail free card’ from your shitty day job because you’ll be in for a big surprise.

If, on the other hand, you’ve spotted a problem that’s close to your heart that you’d like to solve, start small and go to work everyday harder on yourself than you do on your day job.
