Thank Your Critic

We often take criticism as a personal attack upon our character and abilities, but shouldn’t we really be putting a lid on our egos in return for the possibility of personal growth?

There have been many times in my life where someone has criticised the way I write, the way I talk or even the way I look but as I’ve grown older I’ve learnt to see that most criticism comes from people who care and those that have my best interests at heart.

“Feedback is the breakfast of champions.” – Ken Blanchard

Criticism IS personal but can be majorly powerful. Just as a martial artist thanks his Sensei every time he corrects his bad technique, we too must welcome regular appraisals in order to grow.

“To avoid criticism, do nothing, say nothing, and be nothing.” – Elbert Hubbard

Next time you receive some criticism, thank the person for their time because there’s a lot of people out there who are happy to watch you stagnate.
